Android TV boxes are the most flexible IPTV devices: more power than a Firestick, full Google Play Store access, and Ethernet built in. Whether you have an Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box, Formuler or a generic box, the setup is the same and takes about 5 minutes.
Step 1 — Connect and update the box
- Plug the box into the TV via HDMI and into the router via Ethernet (or Wi-Fi if you must)
- Sign in with a Google account and let the box install its updates first
Step 2 — Install an IPTV player
Open the Google Play Store and install one of these:
- IPTV Smarters Pro — simplest interface, ideal for beginners
- TiviMate — the best TV guide and channel zapping, our favourite for daily use
Both are free to install. If a specific app is not in the store in your country, our support sends you the official APK link to install via the Downloader app — same method as in our Firestick guide.
Step 3 — Log in
- Open the app and choose “Login with Xtream Codes API” (Smarters) or “Add playlist > Xtream Codes” (TiviMate)
- Enter the username, password and server URL from your welcome email
- Wait 1-2 minutes for the 50,000+ channels and the EPG to load
Recommended settings for the best quality
- In the player settings, set the decoder to Hardware (smoother 4K)
- Enable EPG auto-update so the TV guide stays fresh
- If you see buffering, work through our 7 buffering fixes — 90% of cases are Wi-Fi related
